Now the professional exams are over, we wait!!!

As it stands now, every other thing do not seem to matter until the result for the just concluded 4th MBBS is released. This is particularly so considering the way the clinical aspect of the exam went.

There were account of candidates actually weeping because they feel that they did not do well. Some others went into that same room and came out rejoicing. I have always known that this kind of exam is purely subjective, never objective, depending on the mood of the examiners.
Written examinations are generally believed to be easily surmountable; this includes the multiple choice questions and the theory papers. Problems naturally arise in the clinical segments. Why?
The clinical segments require communicating with patients and managing such patients like you would in live-practice. It brings to the fore the skills you have acquired during the clinical postings and what you must have learnt from your lectures and Professors.

But as it is, clinical examinations also involves inviting neutral external examiners, to be on the panel in charge of the examinations. Most times, these 'externals', as they are often referred to, are the Chief-examiners for the exams. So the problem comes whenever these externals have different idiosyncrasies or different approach to an issue or topic.

Clinical students generally believe that hard-work may not be the key determinant to passing of failing in this exam. We believe that it has to do more with luck, favour from the divine or on the mood of the examiners (particularly the external examiner).

Now we wait. Waiting can be so hard because every other thing has to be on stand-still pending the release of the result. It is at this junction I would request you put in a word of prayer for clinical students the world over, especially those in Madonna University Teaching Hospital, for God's limitless favours on our examination
